據說世界上最薄的兩本書,就是德國笑話、英國食譜。
I've heard a saying that the thinnest books in the world are the German joke and the English recipe.

一轉眼我也在英國待了快一年,在這個美食沙漠裡,倒也是存活得好好的。一方面想吃什麼自己煮、再來就是謝天謝地我認識很多英國朋友,他們都有跟我推薦英國料理,至於好不好吃,就見仁見智了。
Time flies, I survive quite well in England throughout the year. Of course I managed to cook almost everything I want to eat, and more importantly, thank god that I met loads of English friends who are very willing to introduce their dining culture to me!

每個地方都有習慣用詞,例如:台灣人喜歡說「正」、香港人喜歡說「靚」、英國人喜歡說 ‘lovely’、而我發現法國人喜歡形容女孩子 ‘feminine’

Every place has its preference in expressions. For instance, when it comes to describe a good looking woman, Taiwanese people say ‘cheng’ (meaning close to ‘looks right’), Hong Kong people say ‘Liang’ (meaning close to ‘shining’), English people say ‘lovely’, and I found out that French people describe woman with the word ‘feminine’.

現在想起若蘭媽媽幫若蘭綁頭髮、若蘭爸爸送女兒出海關的眼神等等點滴,還是很想立刻飛回南法。大概是彌補自己太久沒有被家人呵護的感覺吧,作客短短幾天,讓我又幸福又難過,難過的是,我不在家人的身邊,而且就算我在家人的身邊,也沒辦法像他們一樣表達對彼此的愛。

Thinking about moments like Josepha’s mother wearing Josepha’s in plaits, Josepha’s father seeing the daughter off at the airport, still makes me want to fly back to Lupiac right away. Even though I stayed only for few days, I was very happy and touched by their warm welcome. However, I was also very sad for the fact that I am not with my own family. Even if I were with my own family, I wouldn’t be able to express my love toward them so well like Josepha’s family do.
