Our friendship is so close that I sometime forgot the fact that Josepha is a French. It was after I visited France that I could really see the French influence on her.
We had a conversation about the stereotypes how we view each other's culture but broke when we understood each other by person. It wasn't a very easy chat for some sensitive reasons, but it's worthy to find out our stereotypes.
1. She is romantic, but not overly sentimental. She doesn't do one-night-stand.
2. Most of her outfit are in black or gray, but she also has lots of colourful clothes. (Especially skirts and accessories)
3. She smiles a lot. In fact, she LAUGHS a lot! I thought Parisians always pull a long face.
4. She loves food, quality food. But she's not very into cuisine with snails.
1. I usually say what I mean. I say NO directly when I mean so.
2. I am tall.
3. I don't like to travel with a group of people. I don't tend to take funny pictures in front of famous touristic spots, neither.
4. I don't giggle.
She doesn't agree with the stereotype that French people are very open to one-night-stand. She thinks that French people are generally quite romantic but don't necessarily develop relationships so quickly.
I am quite surprised with the giggle stereotype! To be honest, people in Taiwan always encourage me to smile more to look softer, especially elder generation always educate me "People like you more when you have a smile on your face!". Somehow I found it really hard to smile insincerely! Good thing is that I am pretty good at putting a smile on my face, but giggling is EXHAUSTING!
I tried to think of my Taiwanese or other Asian friends... Asian girls do tend to giggle more!
Stereotype is a very interesting topic. Do you have or encounter any special stereotype?
